                                          Authentic Desi Beef Saag Gosht Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1kg beef, cubed and with bones
  • 2kg fresh spinach, washed and chopped
  • Sarson ka saag 3kg washed and chopped
  • Bathua 1kg washed and chopped
  • 4 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, finely chopped
  •  1 Tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp of ginger, minced
  • 10 - 20 green chilies, chopped (adjust according to preference)
  • 1 Tbsp  cumin Powder
  • 1 Tbsp coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste I used 1, 1/2 tbsp
  • 1  cup oil or ghee
  • Red chilli powder 1 tbsp
  • Black pepper 1 Tsp
  • Chili flakes 1 Tbsp

Instructions:

  1. Preparation of the Beef:

    • In a deep pan,  mix the cubed beef with the bones of the legs add, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, ginger, chopped green chilies, turmeric powder, and a pinch of salt. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Saag 

    • Add into the pan the chopped spinach, sarson ka saag, and bathua with water for 5 minutes until wilted. Drain the water when it cools down grind it all in the blender and make a smooth puree. Cook the ground saag with all masala and grinded green masala like 
    • 2-4 onions
    • 3 Tomatoes
    • green chilies 10 - 20
    • ginger and garlic 
    • 1 Tbsp salt 
    • 1 tbsp red chili powder
    • coriander powder 1 tbsp
    • ground spices 1 Tsp
    • cumin powder 1/2 tsp
  3. Cook the beef:

    • Add beef to a pan with 1-liter water over medium heat. Add all the masala in it like 
    • 1 Tbsp salt 
    • 1 Tbsp red chili powder
    • Black pepper 1 Tsp
    • Ground spices 1 Tsp
    • cumin powder 1 Tsp 
    • 1 onion chopped
    • 1 Tometo chopped
    • green chilies crushed 5-8 
    • ginger garlic paste 1,1 Tbsp
    • Cook it properly. now remove the bones and set them aside.
  4. Combine the beef and saag: Return the cooked beef to the saag and mix well. Cook for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

  5. Preparation of Tarka: Add 1/2 cup of oil in a frying pan and add 1 chopped onion. fry the onions until brown in color. Now add it into the saag and cook the saag until oil comes up and the saag leave the pan. Saag is ready.

  6. Garnish and serve:

    • Add melted butter on top and garnish it with green chilies. Serve hot with steamed rice or naan bread. Enjoy :)
